Sunday 21 Mar 21 Spring Equinox
21 Mar 21
I got up at 7:30 and took the dogs on their morning potty break. Along the way I saw a seal, hummingbird, segals and a huge flock of some brown shore bird. I heard a woodpecker in the trees on the far side of the parking lot. Back in aRTy I made coffee and sat in the third seat watching several people on their paddle boards and kayaks. I thought I would wait until it warmed up bit before I got my kayak in the water. I noticed a few people stirring about on their sailboats. I saw one man on a dingy coming to the pier and I went out to talk with him. He had been living on his sailboat for about a year. He said it cost between $300-400 per month to tie up to a pier. He said he looked living on the boat but it took a lot of maintenance.
Later I fixed oats for breakfast with toast and grapefruit and worked on catching up on my blog. After cleaning up I walked down to the area of the gift shops.
I remember it being a Sunday when Alison, Zack and I was there many years ago. I recall on that occasion there was hardly anyone there and most of the shops and restaurants were closed. I remember even then it seemed odd since it was mid June. We finally found an open takeout fish place and had their fish sandwiches. There is an old power plant in town and I'm sure there was smoke or steam coming out of the three tall stacks when we were there. At some point we walked out on a boat pier with several fishing boats tied up. There was a young boy on the pier fishing. He said he lived nearby and he was there fishing for sharks. It was one of those perfect moments and I reflect on that day often. I wonder if Alison remembers that day.
I checked out a few of the shops as I walked to the far end of the shopping area. I went to the Fish and Chips Hut and bought a Crabby Paddy Sandwich and coleslaw and took it back to aRTy for lunch. It was a least a mile back and it was barely warm when I got back but it was still very delicious.
Later in the afternoon the wind picked up so I decided I had better not launch the kayak. Instead I took Wiggin for a long walk down to the shopping area. There were less people but it was still pretty busy. Wiggin really enjoyed the walk but by the time we got back his leg was bothering him and he was limping pretty bad. I will have the vet look at him when we get home. After I got back to aRTy I took Pete for a walk as well. It is so much easier walking only one dog. Pete is doing really good. I think his coat looks better than it ever has and he doesn't seem to shed near as much. I wish I had known early on that he was diabetic. Maybe I could have prevented the cataracts.
For dinner I nuked a can of chili on a plate of chips and topped it with some cheese. After dinner I watched the first two episodes of the Band of Brothers. I previously picked up the series in a DVD set at some second hand store. I really enjoy the series so far.
After the movie I crawled in my sleeping bag and called it a day.
